Off the top of my head, the desk located before the rows of bookshelves in the corner of the study room is definitely one of the oldest things that has ever been kept in my family. If my memory serves me right, it had been there since I was born. So I would say, it remained at the same spot for over twenty years at least. My father told me that it was a gift from my grandpa at the housewarming party for the celebration of living in a new house back then. The surface was smooth, bright and fine to the touch. It was made of rose wood. Now, years passed. There were some tiny holes on the surface, so it had a rough feel. The lustre from the rose wood faded from shiny brown to a darker hue. Dried, ink stains could be seen easily. However, my father doesn’t want to throw it away.

It also takes me back to those years of listening to stories narrated by my father.
