Thread of thought

突出描述打破的物品,展开打破东西的时候你的内心感受等,回应题目的how you broke it and what you did after that.

  Sample answer

Well, I’m always that clumsy and careless person in my friends’ eyes, though I try really hard to be as careful and meticulous as possible. I’m what you would call “a destroyer”, I mean, whenever I lay my hands on something, something terrible might happen.

  Language bits:

lay my hands on sth. (Eg: lay my hands on the computer 我手触碰到这部电脑)

So today I'm gonna tell you about the time when I broke the vase at my friend’s house. As I recall, it was a Sunday afternoon full of brilliant sunshine, and I was in an elated mood as my bosom friend invited me over to his home for the afternoon tea and a relaxing, long chat. Plus, we hadn’t seen each other for, like, two months as we were both swarmed with our work. On arrival at the doorstep, I called out to my friend in that happy tone to announce my arrival. She rushed to the doorway and greeted me with a hug. That was when I noticed the vase on top of the cabinet on the left hand side of the corridor leading to the living room.  Then somehow, maybe driven out of curiosity, I stopped there and took a close, good look at the vase. It was a delicate vase with beautiful patterns such as the colorful flowers and flying swallows you’ve often seen in Chinese traditional painting. I marveled at the pattern while caressing the surface of vase. It feels really smooth to the touch and I could tell that it was a fine piece of artwork. However, my attention drifted to somewhere else, and that was when I lost my balance while standing, so the vase fell to the ground. It  was literally shattered to pieces. Seeing this, I stood there, frozen for a moment. Later, I gathered the broomstick and cleaned up the broken pieces.

  Language bits:

  be in an elated mood兴高采烈,心情极好

  feel/be elated十分高兴

  invite me over 邀请我参加......

  have a long chat 畅聊

  be swarmed with sth.

  upon/on arrival at sw.

be driven out of/by curiosity

  marvel at sth.

(Eg: marvel at the craftsmanship 对手工技术惊叹不已; marvel at the view对景色惊叹不已)

  caress  v.

feel adj. to the touch 摸起来......

  my attention/mind drifted.

  be shattered to pieces

  be broken into pieces破成碎片

  be smashed to pieces被砸成粉碎

  3. 描述what you did and how you felt about it

Of course, I apologized profusely to my friend for the accident and demanded that I should compensate for the loss. However, my friend took lightly of the accident and suggested that I leave it all behind. That was a relief for me, but this also served as a reminder that I should be gentle and careful with things at hand.

  Language bits:

  apologize profusely to sb.

  compensate for the loss赔偿损失

  take lightly of sth.

  leave it all behind

be gentle with things at hand对手上的东西要温柔
