Describe a time when you received some good news

   You should say:

   When you received it

   Who told you the news

   What the news was

And explain how you felt about it

  01

  When you received it

  Example one:

A month ago, I heard some really good news. I clearly remember it was on a Friday night. After I just finished my last class, I received a message from my mum.

  Example two:

Actually, I have received a lot of good news recently but last Sunday, I heard some fantastic news. It was a sunny afternoon and I was just hanging out in my room when I got a message from my friend Jill.

  02

  Who told you the news

  Example one:

Actually, my mum and I live in different cities. She lives in our hometown while I live in Hangzhou. We don’t get to meet up often, so my mum sends me messages every day to tell me her news.

  Example two:

Jill is my neighbor and also my colleague. We work together in the same school.  She is a very kind and positive girl who talks to me about everything from work to life.

I remember it was about a month ago. It was raining heavily outside, so I decided to watch a movie at home instead of going out.  I was in bed watching a movie when I received a notification on my phone.

I wasn’t really sure who sent the message. Normally It is my mum but when I opened my WeChat, it was actually my friend, Bill.

  03

  What the news was about

5w2h (when/where/who/what/why/how much/ how often)。

  Example :

That night, she told me that they were planning to move to a big new house next year. The house is in the suburbs of the city, a bit far from the city center, but she says it has a great view with lots of trees and my father will have his own backyard where he can grow some vegetables.

  Example :

She told me that the council had just approved a new subway line which is going to built right next to our neighbourhood. The construction is planned for next year and should be completed within 3 years.

The new line will include 30 stops, one of which is going to be right next to our school, so it is going to be much easier for us to travel.

  PS: 这里我涉及的拓展点为“when/ how long/ length/ stops”。

  04

  How you felt about it

I was over the moon when i heard the news and I felt delighted that my parents were going to live in a better environment. Actually, they have been living in their old flat for about 30 years.

It is really small with only two bedrooms. The rooms are cramped 拥挤的 and cluttered 杂乱的. There is no room to swing a cat 超小. Because of this, they seldom invite friends and relatives to stay over.

But now because of my parents' hard work,  they will finally have their own big house with lots more space and privacy. I am excited about the future and hope they can move soon and that i can visit them all the time.

It was such a relief to hear about the subway. We have commuted to work together for years and because there isn't a subway line nearby, we have had to drive to work which has been time-consuming and stressful. We have spent hours in traffic jams and have spent a fortune on parking.

  When you received it

Actually, I have received a lot of good news recently but last Sunday, I heard some fantastic news. It was a sunny afternoon and I was just hanging out in my room when I got a message from my friend Jill.

  Who told you the news

Jill is my neighbor and also my colleague. We work together in the same school.  She is a very kind and positive girl who talks to me about everything from work to life.

  What the news was about

She told me that the council had just approved a new subway line which is going to built right next to our neighbourhood. The construction is planned for next year and should be completed within 3 years.

The new line will include 30 stops, one of which is going to be right next to our school, so it is going to be much easier for us to travel.

  How you felt about it

It was such a relief to hear about the subway. We have commuted to work together for years and because there isn't a subway line nearby, we have had to drive to work which has been time-consuming and stressful. We have spent hours in traffic jams and have spent a fortune on parking.

But thanks to the new subway line, we should be able to halve our travel time and we can relax on the way and not have to concentrate on the road. We just have to wait for it to be built.
